October 14, 1803, Louis Claude de Saint-Martin died - French mystic and founder of Martinism. The authorship of Louis Claude de Saint-Martin owns many mystical writings, which he signed under the pseudonym "Unknown Philosopher".
Louis Claude de Saint-Martin was initiated into the Ordre des Chevaliers Maçons Élus Coëns de l'Univers of Martinez de Pasqually, and he was de Pasqually's personal secretary. Saint-Martin was very deeply immersed in the practices and concepts that de Pasqually taught, and the pseudonym "The Unknown Philosopher" was chosen for the reason that this was the name of the invisible agent with whose help the Elus Cohens acquired the knowledge of the essence of things during theurgic operations. Saint-Martin was also deeply immersed in teachings set forth in the writings of Jacob Boehme, he was the first who translated his works from German into French.
Louis Claude de Saint-Martin, after the death of Martinez de Pasqually, began to develop his movement in mysticism, which was later called martinism. In martinism, esoteric practice was limited to meditative and prayer practics, and the concepts were transmitted in clear text - in the books of Louis Claude de Saint-Martin. In the last years of his life, Saint-Martin dreamed of uniting martinism and martinezism, solving for himself the biner of the mystical and magical-theurgic path. In the epic-magical poem "The Crocodile, or the War of Good and Evil" ("Le Crocodile ou la guerre du bien et du mal") Saint-Martin allegorically reflects the philosophy of the operational path of Martinez de Pasqually.
Among the mystical writings of Louis Claude de Saint-Martin: "Des Erreurs et de la Verite" ("On errors and truth"), Lettre à un ami, ou Considérations philosophiques et religieuses sur révolution française (“Letter to a friend, or Philosophical and religious considerations of the French Revolution "), "Lightning on human society" ("Éclair sur l'Association humaine"), "Spirit of things, or a philosophical view on the nature of beings and on the subject of their existence "(L'Esprit des choses ou Coup d'œil philosophique sur la nature des étres et sur l'objet de leur existence), “Man, his true nature and ministry” (Le Ministère de l'Homme-Esprit).
