Sleep hypnotic treatment

The power of faith. The healing power of hypnotism, strictly speaking, is the inalienable power of the patient himself, through which he perceives and believes in the power of instilling health in him, and in this case hypnotism only calls the attention of the subconscious mind to activity. Let us note to ourselves that this healing power is not noticeable in the waking state and belongs to the subconscious as a reserve that can be developed either through self-suggestion, or by a hypnotist through suggestions, as has already been indicated.

In both cases, we are talking about the impression made by the conscious mind on the subconscious, therefore, it does not matter which method is used to cure diseases. The first method is called autohypnosis, the second is hypnotism.

The difference between hypnotism and natural sleep. I have already spoken about the unusually good memory that makes itself felt during hypnosis, and it is now quite clear to you that both hypnotism and natural sleep cannot be classified in the same category. During hypnosis, a person's mental capacity is greatly exacerbated. But if a person's sleep is not interrupted by suggestions, then hypnotic sleep always turns into normal, and therefore we can confidently assert that hypnosis evolves from sleep and turns into sleep again.

Treatment during natural sleep. Just as hypnosis comes from artificial sleep, it can also be induced from natural sleep. In America nowadays, parents are treating their children with hypnosis while sleeping, and this method of treatment is already showing excellent results in eradicating the bad habits of children, improving their health and encouraging diligence. To this end, during sleep, parents conduct a conversation with their children and force them to answer all the questions asked. The most important benefit of sleep therapy is that the parent or operator will take over the sleeping child's attention during this time.

In 1897, I published this method of treatment in America in a short pamphlet Education During Sleep, which detailed successful treatments. Stuttering, fear, bad habits, nervousness, etc. easily succumbed to this method of treatment, and bad habits and various manias completely disappeared.

Recalling what was said in the previous lessons about the power inherent in the sub-conscious mind, and then the philosophy of this system will become completely clear and understandable to us.

A method learned in France. A year after I reported my discovery to the press, Dr. Paul Farez submitted to Revue de l'hypnotisme a series of articles confirming my system and his results. It is now recognized by psychologists that educational and moral influences can be imprinted in the brains of sleeping people. The way these results are achieved is always the same, so we don't need to spend too much time developing its details. You have already been shown in the previous lectures how to make positive suggestions.

For a better understanding of the treatment during sleep, we will try, so to speak, to depict this method in pictures. Let's say your son gets into the habit of stuttering. These kinds of habits are often acquired by children only from imitation of adults. For the successful treatment of such a habit, in the evening, when the child goes to bed, you must tell him: “Tonight, when you are sound asleep, I will come to talk to you. You shouldn't be surprised at my visit and my conversation. During all this time you will not wake up, but you will answer all my questions. "

A way to give suggestions while sleeping. Some time after the conversation, when the child has already fallen into a deep sleep, you go to him and lie down next to him and begin to stroke his forehead with your hand in order to evoke an idea of your presence in his brain. It goes without saying that you should avoid jolts, noise, banging, etc., which could wake your child up, and then instead of treatment you would have to resort to the same method that you used to hypnotize the subject.

You would have to tell him that everything is calm, that he should close his eyes and fall asleep soundly. You should do these suggestions in a tone that does not allow objection, in order to evoke a feeling of drowsiness in him and so that he immediately falls asleep and does not wake up during your conversation with him. However, if you follow our instructions exactly, then the child should not wake up. During the suggestion, you should not fuss, but slowly and gradually grab his attention. Speak in a clear and quiet voice, without haste.

Calm suggestion. Say calmly to your child: “You are fast asleep and will not wake up. You can answer my questions. Are you feeling good? " Most likely, at first, the child will not answer you, and you need to prepare him to be able to answer you without waking up. For this purpose, you continue to calmly stroke his forehead, gradually drawing all his attention to yourself. Then you lightly put your finger on his mouth and say, "When I touch your mouth, you will be able to speak and say “yes”." Usually, the child's lips will move slightly, as if making a sound, but no sound will follow. When you notice this lip movement, you can repeat your suggestion and warn him that the next night he will freely talk to you.

Stuttering treatment. Now you can start treating stuttering by making the following suggestion: “Tomorrow you will see that you can speak completely freely and without any difficulty. You will speak as easily, fluently and clearly as I do. During the conversation, you will neither hesitate, nor find it difficult to speak. " Repeat this suggestion one more time, but very convincingly, and leave the child. In the morning he will most likely not remember anything of what you said to him, but you will notice a significant improvement in his speech. But sometimes it can happen that during the day your suggestion will weaken due to the action of subconscious memory on the conscious one, and he will remember everything that you told him. There are also reverse phenomena, namely, that the child remembers absolutely nothing about what happened to him. All these phenomena depend only on the degree of sleep depth into which your subject fell.

Repetition is the best result. The next night and others as you talk to him, you will notice that you will put less effort into achieving results.

The experience of passive somnambulism must be made by you in order to convince you of the limitless influence of one person on another during natural sleep. You can convince your boy that he is a soldier at the head of his squad, and he will go through all the stages of the battle. You can suggest to him that upon waking up he will remember the battle, and everything that you suggest to him during sleep, he will tell you the next day. But he will not remember that this suggestion was made by you, and he will believe that all this is nothing but the real thing that he saw. In the same way that you captured the battlefield in his mind, you can instill in him the vision of peace and healthy relaxation. The law of the subconscious mind's receptivity to suggestions remains unchanged. This law can be aimed at both good and evil, and therefore look at it as a tool that you can use only with good intentions.
